About Pipoco!

Pipoco! is a free online bomb battle game with a Brazilian twist. Drop bombs around the map, break blocks, grab items and try to be the last one standing, on your own or with friends. It runs right in your browser, on PC and phone, with nothing to download.

How to play

Every bomb blows up in a cross after a moment: the fire breaks blocks and catches anyone in its line. Broken blocks drop items that make you stronger: more bombs at once, longer fire, more speed and the kick, which pushes bombs. Matches are quick, just a few minutes, and near the end the map closes in so nobody can hide.

On PC you play with the keyboard (arrows or WASD and Space) or a gamepad. On phones there's an on-screen stick and big buttons, upright or sideways.

The Expedition: the Cordel of Pipoco

On São João eve, Colonel Zé Poeira puts out the Mother Bonfire of Vila Estalo and scatters its embers across Brazil's Northeast. You and your friends go after them through 12 stages in 3 acts: the dry caatinga backlands, the coastal mangrove and the Colonel's farm.

Along the way you'll meet cavies, crabs, caracaras, henchmen and bosses like the Goat King, Calangão the giant lizard, Zé Tarrafa the fisherman, the Iron Land Crab and the Colonel himself. Each stage hides cordel booklets, short rhyming poems with real facts about Brazilian culture: the mandacaru cactus, forró music, rapadura, mangroves, stilt houses, bumba-meu-boi and much more.

Maps with a Brazilian flavor

Each arena has its own hazard:

• Beach: the tide rises, puts out bombs and leaves items on the sand when it goes out.
• Favela: a moto-taxi speeds down the lane.
• Amazon: vines and a rainstorm that soaks the bombs.
• Arraial: a June-festival bonfire, falling lit balloons and the quadrilha dance that swaps your controls.
• Subway: doors that take you to the other side and a train that runs down the track.
• Classic: the traditional map, no surprises.

Powers and characters

As you level up you unlock special powers: ice bomb, mud wall, lightning bomb, dash, invisibility, frevo umbrella, poison bomb and firefly. Pick yours before the match and charge it with the stars on the map.

The characters are inspired by Brazil (Moleque, Baiana, Capoeirista, Cangaceiro, Baller, Samba Dancer, Surfer, Skater) and can wear skins and ghosts from the shop. Everything in the shop is cosmetic: nobody buys an advantage.

What you need to play

Just open it in your browser: nothing to install. For everything to work properly, use an up-to-date browser:

• Chrome, Edge or Opera: version 111 or newer. Samsung Internet: version 22 or newer.
• Safari (Mac) and iPhone/iPad: version 16.2 or newer (iPhone 8, iPhone X or newer).
• Firefox: version 121 or newer.

On a phone

Android 8 or newer, or an iPhone on iOS 16.2 or newer. It works on simple devices (from 2 GB of memory): the game lowers its graphics by itself if the screen starts to stutter. It plays best with the phone in landscape. If you opened the link inside Instagram or TikTok, tap “open in browser” for full screen and the best performance.

On a computer

Any PC, Mac or Linux machine with 4 GB of memory and one of the browsers above. Play with the keyboard (arrow keys or W A S D, Space drops the bomb) or a game controller.

Internet

Stable Wi-Fi or 4G. You can play with a ping of up to about 300 ms, and the ideal is 150 ms or less. School or company networks that block real-time connections may stop the game from opening.
